Common Types of Truck Accidents in PA

Naftulin & Shick know truck accidents and how to get compensation for injured people. Our attorneys have four decades of experience representing injured people and their families with compassion and dedication.

Rear-end Collisions and Over-ride Accidents

A loaded tractor trailer can weigh as much as 80,000 lbs. The momentum behind a truck going 70 mph or more is too much to stop at anywhere near the rate of the car in front of it. In such situations, a truck will actually ride over the top of a car, motorcycle, or other vehicle.

Under-ride Accidents

At times, it can be difficult to tell if a truck is moving slowly or stopped in the road. A slow moving tractor trailer may not get out of the way in time to avoid your car. Since the truck bed is higher off the ground than a car, a collision may result in a car running right under a truck — severe injury or wrongful death is common. This often occurs at night when the trailers are not properly outfitted with reflective materials, or when tractor trailers attempt to back into driveways without someone directing traffic.

Jack-knife Accidents

When a truck driver applies a truck's brakes suddenly or enters a curve too quickly, the tractor trailer may skid and cause the trailer to swing out at a dangerous angle. These accidents are also caused by equipment failure and too frequently lead to multi-vehicle pile-ups and other serious accidents.

Blind Spot Accidents

Tractor trailers have blind spots on the left, right, and behind the truck. Most truck drivers are careful and use their mirrors. But, when a truck driver negligently changes lanes and does not see you, you can be forced into the median, off the road, or even into on-coming traffic. Cars can be pulled under the truck by the large sets of truck tires. These situations result in very serious injuries.
